The Ginsangers | Press Kit

PRESS BLURB

The GinSangers take jazz, blues, country, swing, rock and folk, put them in a blender and create the best darned drink you ever tasted.  The GinSangers are a quasi-democratic federation that lies on the border of the magical realist nation of Music.

Short Description

At a GinSangers concert you can expect to hear a rich, sweet voice a voice that has been likened to those of a host of outstanding traditional and contemporary singers—but it’s unique to Connie Townsend. You can also expect to hear a great band of musicians who love to play music together.

The GinSangers music is a mix of originals and cover songs that range in flavor from jazz to blues and swing to rock and country —with a hint of traditional. They have performed at MerleFest, on Mountain Stage, on Public Radio and from Maine to Louisiana. Their recordings have received airplay throughout the U.S.

Connie Townsend and Dave Parker’s songwriting has won national recognition. Like Connie’s voice, it is unique but at the same time fits seamlessly with the canon of American music and has been described as having a timeless quality.

Full Bio

The GinSangers, based in Elkins, West Virginia, make the highlands their home.

The band members come from diverse musical backgrounds that cover the range of jazz, country, folk, rock and blues. They meld these flavors into a musical concoction that audiences love.  Jeff Broschart is on drums, Connie Townsend guitar and lead vocals, Seth Maynard on lead guitar, Roy Turner on electric and upright bass and Dave Parker on acoustic and resonator guitar.

Their music continues to evolve as a dynamic, organic, expression of life.

One of Parker and Townsend’s songs, Rock Me Like a Lullaby, took them to MerleFest where they won first place in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest. They were top ten finalists at the Mountain Stage New Song Contest with Carry My Soul Away and were runners-up in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Restless Woman Blues was a featured song on Sirius-XM Radio. Their songs have been on West Virginia compilation recordings and have been used in theater productions.

Individually or in some combination The GinSangers have played music from coast to coast and border to border.

REVIEW

"The Ginsangers, what can I say about them due to me being the President of a Blues Society? Well first of all, my background is also as a lifelong drummer. I have played Country, Jazz, Rock as well as Bluesgrass music. When I hear a band for the first time I use the same criteria as I do when I travel as a judge in music competitions. Vocal talent, stage presence, talent and content. This band really connected with there audience right from the first song and held them there with ease thru-out there entire set. They moved with ease from one song to another as one of the tightest acts seen in some time. The interplay between each of the musicians in this band can only come from playing together for a long period. This band is solid in all areas that I listened to and watched. The transition of the leads from one musician to another went very smooth and polished. This Act has a very bright future and for any future fans out there, you are in for a treat!"
